In the Search for God and Guinness, Stephen Mansfield tells the story of the Guinness family. While the book recounts the amazing rise of one of the must successful breweries in the world, what makes the book and the Guiness family fascinating is the accounts of their character, faith, and generosity. Today starting at noon eastern time, Leadership Network is presenting Aha! It’s a free, totally online leadership conference featuring 40 leaders sharing their “Aha!” moments. I’m going to blog and tweet about Aha live as it happens. Stop by and share your thoughts on the Aha! here in the comments.
Review of the book Derailed by Tim Irwin. Overview, favorite quotes, personal thoughts, and questions to consider.
I am a huge proponent of systems. For things that need to be done regularly, having a formula or system in place, can dramatically save time and improve the quality and consistency with which it is done.
However, I also think sometimes we are too quick to borrow other people’s formulas, and often too slow to recognize when they’re not working.
Earlier this week Brad Ruggles posted this funny video, How to Report the News, to his blog. In it, Charlie Brooker describes and takes shots at the formula a lot of TV news stories follow. Have a look.
Now I understand there are a lot of different leadership styles, but I wonder… if a leader is only as great as the people around him, won’t a leader who does not mentor end up with a team of people with unrealized potential around him?
Today I’ll be blogging live from the first ever Cultivate Conference in Chicago over on the Christian Web Trends blog. Cultivate is being described as less of a conference (which tends to be a few people speaking and the vast majority sitting back and listening) and more of a series of “organized conversations” for participants to discuss issues related to church communications. Check it out if you’re interested.
Often times I think we hang on and keep doing things long after we should have stopped. We’ve all seen the aging sports star who just won’t retire… but it’s scary to shut something down.
