Making His Story in Kenya

Posted on June 14, 2011

children reading story bookI couldn’t be more excited about the community outreach event we’ll be doing at the Springs of Hope Kenya orphanage during our trip to Kenya next month. The theme of the outreach is going to be “story.” (Thank you Donald Miller!) As I wrote on the trip blog…

The idea is that God wants to write a great story through each and every one of us. We all have past. For many of us and many of the kids at Springs of Hope, that past is full of pain, hardship, and separation from God. But along the way we met Jesus Christ. He has transformed us and given us a story of hope and overcoming.

Our past is history. Our future is a mystery. And each new day is a blank page, a clean sheet of paper, on which God wants to write a beautiful love story and a daring adventure.

The post goes on to talk about the things we’ll be doing to connect the stories of kids at Springs of Hope with the stories of kids from our church. Read: Making His Story.

God, the author of life, wants to tell a great story through each one of our lives. Will you let him? If your story seems like a tragedy or a real snoozer so far, remember, as long as you’re still sucking air, there are still pages left to be written.

Paul – About a month ago I returned from Kenya with a team from my church. It was my first time to Africa.

We met some of the most beautiful, hospitable people our Father has placed on this earth.

I pray Father grants you 100 fold fruitfulness on your journey.

Blessed to be a Blessing – Daniel

That’s awesome, Daniel! Where did you go and what did you do while you were there. Got any blog posts or pics of the trip online?

We have an African fellowship at our church made up of mostly Kenyan’s. A couple of them went with us so we went to their homes in Tinderet and Eldoret. While in Tinderet we worked with an orphanage and spent significant time with their teachers discussing future ministry. I had the privilege of teaching church leadership to a couple of different churches. It was surprisingly well received. They asked me to come back a teach more. We also spent time in Kibera, the slums on the outskirts of Nairobi with an amazing young man named Sammy who could pass as a double for Chris Rock. The Holmertz blog is from a couple who is going to Kenya full time in the fall.
Thanks for asking. BTW – your blog site is great.

Daniel, thanks for replying and sharing the links. Sounds like God did some wonderful things through you while in Kenya. It’s also great to see the way your team used the blog to communicate each day. Way to go!
