I’ve been pushing pretty hard lately. January is always our busiest month of the year at OurChurch.Com, so I’ve been working hard to meet some deadlines and launch some new initiative. We have a lot of family nearby so this year that meant 5 Christmas celebrations. We also celebrated 5 birthdays during the holidays. Crazy, I know.
The end result is the only days I took off work were Christmas Day and half of New Years Day. I haven’t had the chance yet to do any reflecting on 2009 or set any goals for 2010.
Today, I was planning to drive my wife and 3 kids to North Carolina for the weekend.
My kids have never seen snow, and so I thought it would be cool to drive up to NC for the weekend to go sledding, make snowmen, and have some snowball fights. I was really looking forward to it.
But the weather didn’t cooperate with us. Its supposed to be 50 degrees and rainy all weekend in western North Carolina. So, reluctantly we canceled the trip.
And now here I am. It’s Friday. I’ve already cleared my schedule for the day, but I have a ton of work I could be doing. It would be so easy to work just like any day but I’m not gonna do it.
I’m taking a “Me and God” day.
I’m going to spend the day reflecting and praying. I’m not sure what else I’ll do.
Maybe I’ll read a book. Maybe I’ll take a nap. Maybe I’ll take a walk along Tampa Bay. Maybe I’ll sit out on my front lawn and chat up any neighbors who stroll by. Maybe I’ll call a friend I haven’t talked to in a while.
Maybe God will bring some opportunity or some person across my path that’s completely unexpected. And maybe because I don’t have some place I “have to be” I’ll actually make the most of that moment.
I’m really looking forward to this day.
It shouldn’t take an act of God to get me to spend a day with Him, though.
Have you ever taken a “Me and God day?” How was it? Do you build them into your schedule on a regular basis? Sounds like a pretty good idea to me.
