I wish I had seen this earlier, but I just learned that today, April 16, is “One Day Without Shoes.”
What is One Day Without Shoes?
It’s a day organized by TOMS Shoes to bring awareness to the fact that millions of children around the world have no shoes. They often have to walk for miles barefoot to get food, water, go to school, or to the market. This often leads to sores, infections, and other debilitating injuries.
So, TOMS is asking people to go one day without shoes…
But, if you haven’t heard about TOMS Shoes, they don’t just talk the talk they, um, walk the walk.
TOMS was founded with a unique purpose. For every pair of shoes they sell, they give away a pair to a child in a 3rd world country. They have given away more than 100,000 pairs of shoes in less than 3 years.
Here’s a video about TOMS Shoes.
And a video about One Day Without Shoes
For more info here are links to the TOMS Shoes website , info about One Day Without Shoes, and the Facebook Event set up to help promote One Day Without Shoes. If you’re on Facebook, invite your friends to participate.
I’m in. I’ll be going barefoot today. How about you?
Those videos are so cool. It’s really awesome that TOM’s is so service oriented instead of being pseudo eco-minded– they actually care and are making a huge difference to so many people. It’s inspiring to think that it all started by one guy who wanted to do something selfless. What if we all did one selfless thing like he is? Even if it was the only noteworthy thing you ever did, it would be the best legacy you could leave.
