On our recent trip to the Philippines Brent and I stayed for a week in the home of Pastor Mel and Ate (Sister) Faye.
They were wonderful hosts! We spent many hours sitting around the table, enjoying Sister Faye’s wonderful cooking, sharing stories, and getting to know one another.
Sister Faye has been teaching preschool in the room shown in the photo above, which is attached to their home. However, she shared that she will not be able to continue teaching for two reasons.
- The families of her students could only afford to pay 250 PH peso/mo (about $5 US), which means she was only earning about $40/mo to teach 8 students.
- She was teaching under the registration of another school. To be legit with the PH gov’t she would have to register her school. The cost of to register is 30,000 pesos ($600 US), which is obviously impossible for someone scraping by on $40/mo to pay.
Sister Faye shared with me that because she cannot afford the this, her plan was to teach at another school which is about 2 hours travel from her home. Because the travel is so long, she would stay with a friend during the week (away from Pastor Mel and her community), and come home on the weekends.
As you can imagine, this “solution” is less than ideal for Pastor Mel and Sister Faye. But just as important, it would prevent her from helping students and families in their neighborhood.
This does not sit well with me at all, so…
Would you help me raise the $600 my dear friend, Sister Faye needs to register?
Because the new school year starts in July, she needs to register ASAP, so I’d like to raise the money and send it to her by Wednesday, July 3.

Update July 5, 2024: Yes! Praise God! We exceeded our goal to raise $600 so Sister Faye can register her school and continuing teaching at her home in Pinugay Baras, Rizal, PH! Thanks to all who contributed to make this possible!
Pls continue to pray that the funds would transfer quickly, and the school registration would be approved quickly. I’ll continue to share details as things progress.
