Session Notes
- Carly Fiorina is making a surprise appearance at the Summit. She’s telling the story of her journey of faith. Remarkably personal! Remarkably courageous! Wow!
Craig taking the platform now…
- I would not be speaking today if it had not been for the people who came before me, believed in me and invest in me.
- Funny story about bringing his fraternity brothers to church.
- To those of the older generation
- Don’t fear, resent or judge the younger generation. Believe in them because they need you.
- If you’re not dead, you’re not done.
- You don’t just delegate tasks to the next generation. If you do that, you’ll create followers. If you delegate authority, you create leaders.
- Authenticity trumps cool every time.
- I can be a spiritual father to those who come behind me.
- Psalm 71:18
- To those in the younger generation
- Business leaders were surveyed and asked what word best describes the emerging generation. #1 response was “entitled”
- Because you feel entitled, you overestimate what you can do in the short run, but you’ll underestimate what you can do through a lifetime of faithfulness.
- Honor publicly results in influence privately.
- “Only in his hometown is a prophet without honor.” Because of their lack of honor & faith, this limited what Jesus could do.
- Honor builds up.
- Respect is earned but honor is given.
- For generations to work together it must be intentional. Organizations naturally age
- 1) Create ongoing feedback loops. Has every message critiqued by those younger and older before giving it.
- 2) Create specific mentoring moments. Don’t try to do what they do, learn how they think.
- 3) Create opportunities for significant leadership development. In one weekend, they gave 38 speakers the opportunity to give the message. Including coaching before hand and afterwards.
- Young leaders, I would give my life for you because I believe in you. You are the most mission-oriented generation we’ve seen in a long time.
- I want to kneel before the Lord and let those who come after me stand on my shoulders.
What impacted you from Craig’s talk? What action will you take as a result?
Thanks for this! Really helpful in preparing for the GLS that starts in Cluj, Romania this Friday.
